This Atari Pac-Man cover made me think a little about the appearance of Bad Boxart MegaMan in SFxT… I try not to hop on the Capcom hate train and in my blind rage get offended over dumb little things like a Megaman poster in the background of UMVC (Even though, there are things I am legitimately upset over, I.E. MML3). But for the most part, I try to be cool with the situation.
Still, seeing the directions Namco and Capcom chose to represent their respective mascots really says a lot about them as companies. Namco wouldn’t be caught dead puttin’ some unseemly and unfamiliar version of a character they know many people will associate with them as a company, while Capcom seems to think it’s OK to make a parody out of their most recognized icon, and in the end making a parody out of themselves. Why not just go with the flow and get back some much needed respect for once? Bad Boxart Megaman is kinda cool, and he might be fun to play as, but c’mon guys, he’s not the one who should be sitting next to THE Pac-Man.
Like I said, I’m not about to start nerd-raging over the fate of a franchise that is well over two decades old, but even I gotta admit that this is enough of the big C goofing around with their icons and audience like that.
